Pardon My Dust

Not that there is any chance someone will actually read this before the end of the year, but just in case. I moved the old web site to the archives today and moved the new web site into production, even though it isn't close to being ready. So, if you are reading this before December 31st, I apologize for the mess...a work in progress.

I've been working on my journal for a good portion of the weekend...basically trying to get the templates for my journal reformatted to work with my new layout. Easier said than done, I'm afraid. Since I've decided to make the site XHMTL 1.1 compliant as well as CSS 2.0 compliant, there is a bit of extra work involved. Also, making sure it doesn't look like a rat's nest in any particular browser also takes a little effort. However, work is progressing well toward my self imposed deadline of December 31st.

If you are here before then, do take a look around, but note that any link below the "Journal" is inactive as the pages have not yet been reformatted. Hopefully, I'll have the journal and its associated components done before Christmas...we'll see!

The Stupid PIll

We have a phrase that we throw around a lot..."someone took a stupid pill". Unfortunately, I didn't realize I had a prescription until yesterday.

We deployed Windows XP SP2 to all of our workstations Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning. I was the point person for the project and coordinated notifications and scheduling the deployment. We also did extensive testing to make sure it would go as smoothly as possible. Well, the best laid plans don't always work. We're still looking into the problem, but we had a number of users whose computers were BSOD Wednesday morning. Not my favorite result. Needless to say it was a busy day picking up the pieces. I guess it wasn't too bad, but I'm a perfectionist so any problems make me mad.

So how does this relate to a stupid pill??? I had a final exam yesterday afternoon. I ask you, what kind of idiot would schedule a major computer update on the same day of a final exam? Yes, the person whose blog you are reading...

On that note, I'm going to dispose of the rest of my pills...

The End of Proofs

Another exciting, yet somehow mundane and tiring class has come to an end. This time it was MAT 211, "Introduction to Mathematical Proofs". If there was a subject that kept me from being a math major, it would most certainly have been proofs. I love math, but I have never been good with proofs. That being said, the class wasn't all that bad as my instructor, Dr. Howard, did a pretty good job making the material understandable. All in all, I have a better understanding of proofs and could probably even tackle one...maybe...

I have my PHY 360 exam (Thermodynamics) on Wednesday. I really enjoyed Thermodynamics and have learned a great deal about the world. Dr. Thomsen did a great job with the class and his course pack/book are very well written and follow along logically. If only every class was this enjoyable, I might not mind school going on for ever. I'm not overly concerned about the final as I have a lot of extra grade space to use in case I don't do well on the exam...I think I need something like a 56% on the final to get an A in the class...not too shabby!

Well, time to crack the book and figure out what I need to study for Wednesday...

In the Midst of Renovations

This marks the turning point in renovation work. My movable type engine (journal) was updated today. The work on the main page is nearly complete. Over the next two weeks I'll be completing renovations to the rest of the site with completion estimated at the end of the year. I'm really excited about how things are starting to shape up with the new look and all. Here's to the new look and feel of the former "Event Horizon", now "Proximal Development"
