All Nighters, but with games and not coursework

Me again...Well, tragically I didn't pull off an all nighter last week. Damn close, but no cigar. We finished work around 4:30 AM and called it a night, er...earling morning. Dawn was really tired and was sick of waiting for our stupid test runs to finish, so that was that. We caught some sleep and were back at it by noon on Friday. We worked for another 11 1/2 hours and turned it in 30 minutes before it was do. Thank God that was over!

So, this past weekend was time to relax for a few days. My final is Friday, and I wasn't planning on spending a week in books. So instead of pulling an all nighter studying or working on a project, I decided to catch up on my gaming which I hadn't done all semester. So, I stayed up playing Civilization III until 5:00 AM Monday morning and 6:30 AM Tuesday morning. Bad, Curt :)

So, it's back to A2 tomorrow to study and get ready for my exam on Friday. Oh well, it could be worse. I could already be stuck in the real world with a 9-5 job for the next 40 years. No offense meant to anyone!

The College Life for Me!

Hola compadres! Well as you can see by the time stamp, I'm writing this around 3:00 AM on Friday. Why you ask? The college life, of course! I'm actually getting a dose of the "College experience" by pulling what may be 'gasp' by first all-nighter! Yes, I know most people don't exactly enjoy having to "pull" an all-nighter, but good old Wayne State never offorded me the opportunity.

So here I am in the Media Union on U of M's North Campus with Mike and Dawn. The Media Union is designed in such a way that you don't realize how the hours just keep ticking by. It's similar to the effect of the old TBP office at Wayne State. We have managed to commandeer 11 computers in the area plus five remote computers to run our simulations for our project that is due at 11:59:59 PM later today. We're just having a blast running simulations and analyzing the data.

So, hopefully we'll be done with our runs around 4:00 AM or so, so then I can stay up for the rest of the morning creating pretty tables and graphs. :)

-Until later...

Cool Interactive Format

Hey Everyone! Isn't this new interactive journal the coolest! My bestest bud in the whole world (at least for the moment), Dawn, set it up for me and runs all of the necessary background stuff for it to work. She rocks! Make sure you visit her site at http://www.dawnandgreg.com. So now you are welcome to read about me or any or my ramblings about the world and post your comments as well. Also feel free to send me stuff you want to post.

Everything else is going fairly well out here in A2. Slacking off of course, when I should be working on a project. Oh, well back to work. Dawn and I seem to always find ways to avoid doing what we're supposed to be doing. :)

First Entry

Welcome to my online journal! I'm not sure how often I'll get around to posting my comments up here, but I thought I would start this and see if I can make updates periodically. I'll be posting information about things going on with me and my life as well as my thoughts on various items in the news.

So, what's up with me? Well, I'm entering the last week and a half of my first semester of graduate school at U of M. I've only got two major assignments left including a homework assignment in one class and a MAJOR project in my other class. The assignment shouldn't be too bad to finish, but the project is much more challenging. I'm working with three of my fellow students to show how the memory latency (the time between the processor requesting data and receiving it) of a microprocessor may make dynamic scheduling (executing computer structions out of order) useless. I hope that kind of made sense! :) So that is keeping me busy these days.

So far it's been pretty tough up here. I almost feel out of my league, but I'm not one to give up that easily...I'm a little stubborn as you may or may not have noticed. However, I did get some good news today. I did really well on my computer architecture exam, perhaps not as good as in the olden days, but definately did well enough to prove I'm not out of place at U of M. :) That score definately made my week! I know, it's pretty sad, that something so minor made a difference, but it was just the boost I needed at this point in the semester.

Well that's all for now. Check back in upcoming days for more!
